the first place to start is with your logo. A professional designer would
have taken into account your business and the "feel" you wanted
to put across. |

| 1. Find a successful business and look at their color scheme and what it "says" about their companies. How do different colors effect how you feel about a company. 2. Try some different color schemes out and mix colors. E.g. Orange and blue are traditional color mixes that speak of longevity. Be careful - they can also say "old fashioned" 3. The design of the site will effect what your colors are saying dramatically. If you are creating a fun, youth site a spectrum of reds and oranges in swirly 60's type style will appeal to this demographic. The same in green probably will miss the mark. 4. Don't be afraid to be out there. You are competing in a world wide market and you want your site to stand out from the rest. At the same time, don't get so out there that clients are turned off of your product. The secret -know your clientele and aim at them specifically. 5. Create a mood. Know the message you are tying to get across and constantly weigh that up against your design. 6. Look at current advertising trends of colors and emulate them. The big companies can get away with sticking to the colors that were trendy 60 years ago. Break in companies need to stay aware of current marketing trends. 7. Pick different shades of the same color. 8. If all else fails and you don't have time to learn a new career employ a professional. We see a lot of different companies and are constantly keeping ahead to give you the best chance to sell your product. Choosing colors becomes second nature to a professional and they will take the time to get to know your company or product well enough to sell it well. |
